Where to we begin? Steve Huntington was tasked with creating and launching Radio Margaritaville with Jimmy Buffett going back to 1997, way before the proliferation of satellite and internet stations. Steve is our Emcee for Rock The Tropics. And are thrilled to have his ultra-talented services.
A graduate of the University Syracuse, Steve worked in the NY area studying the music biz and honing his trade in the competitive DJ arena before migrating to Florida where he is know from Miami to Tampa for his years of spinning the greatest tunes for us (me included. WSHE and Love 93 in Miami).
Decades ago Steve met Jimmy Buffett and became good acquaintances, regularly joining Buffett for dinners at famous Joe's Stone Crabs in Miami Beach, located near the old WSHE station. Steve covered Buffett and The Coral Reefers climb to fame and has been onboard for the highest of highs in this storied career.
When Buffett decided he wanted his own radio station he reached out to Steve. But Buffett did not want just a station in one city - he wanted to reach the entire planet, Australia to Europe, Miami to Aspen, so everyone could hear his tunes and concerts at the same time. In 1997 no one had done this before. Internet was fledging. There was no Sirius or XM.
Steve Huntington and Jimmy Buffett worked on this challenging project for over a year. In 1998 they launched Radio Margaritaville with Steve as the very first Program Director, a position he held for many many years before optioning for a lighter workload.
Steve Huntington is one of the greatest sources of music history from the 70's until today you will ever meet. Steve's in-depth knowledge of which musicians appeared on what albums, who produces them and which radio station played them first is astounding!
Steve will be our Emcee for Rock The Tropics, conducting Meet & Greet sessions, and Q & A's, hosting Welcome & Farewell Receptions, and our fabulous Cinco de Mayo DJ "Mexico style) Pool Party (May 5th). And knowing Steve, he will have as much of a blast as any attendee. He loves his job!
