After a false start (thanks to covid closing the resort less than a week after opening last spring) Margaritaville Island Reserve Riviera Cancun is open and thrilling guests - us included.
We visited the resort in late August to experience it first hand. So many questions: How Jimmy Buffett is it? How does the "stock your own mini-bar work? What's the food like (it is all inclusive)? Are margarita's really included? How nice is the beach? is there a spa? Well we did the labor and investigated all of these legit concerns. And here are our answers.
JIMMY BUFFTT FANS WILL LOVE IT
You will find Jimmy Buffett's famous lyrics displayed through the resort but you won't find his face plastered in your room (I once had Iggy Pop staring at me at Hard Rock Cancun while I sat on the toilet - for real). You will hear his music mixed in through the many bars along with everything from the Beatles to contemporary pop.
STOCK YOUR OWN MNI-BAR
Most all inclusive resorts have included stocked mini-bars as is. At Margaritaville you personalize your own. You receive points based on your room category and number of nights you stay. We found whatever the formula is, to be generous.
We shopped at Joe Merchant's and stocked our fridge with exactly what we wanted. Liquor, Wine, Soft Drinks, Beers from around the world, Energy Drinks, Snacks, Juices - you name it, you claim it. You can even make margaritas in your room. We had plenty of points to go around. We love the concept.
GOURMET INCLUSIVE FARE IN CASUAL STYLES
Karisma Resorts operates Margaritaville island Reserve Resorts and they have always derived Gourmet Inclusive fate at resorts like El Dorado Resorts, etc. The menu's are dotted with Buffett lyrics like Volcano Nachos (to die for), and of course Cheeseburger in Paradise, and restaurants are named Frank & Lola's, etc.
The food quality and variety are simply exceptional. You could eat breakfast daily for a week at The Beach House and never repeat the menu. The Fish Tacos at Rita's Taco House (literally over the beach) are mouthwatering. You will find everything from tender Tenderloin for meat lovers to Seafood Bouillabaisse for seafood lovers (Like me).
YOUR MARTARITAS ARE ALL INCLCUDED
Of course your drinks are included. Margaritaville Island Reserve Resorts are the only Margaritaville's where drinks are included. From Heineken and Coors Lights to Mexican cerveza, from Jack Daniels to Bacardi (even Havana Rum), and all of the Tequila and Mezcal brands you can imagine - they are all included.
Drinks are never far away as there are bars, pool bars, swim up bars, restaurant bars, room mini-bars and servers at the beach and around the pools to serve you. And there is plenty of live music in the afternoon and nightly. Cheers
TROPICAL ROOMS & SUITES
There are nine room categories to accommodate most budgets and requirements. From the stylish intimate Paradise Room to the Presidential Chill Out Suite, and the Junior Suites, Suites and Swim Out Suites in between. The Suites are especially roomy and the swim up suites are perfect to chill and get waited on as well. And of course 24-Hour Room Service is included.
BEACH, SPA & SO MUCH MORE
The beach here is gorgeous - white sand leading to multi-colored turquoise Caribbean waters. There is an area for chilling with Bali beds and sun loungers, an area for sports activities and one for kids with slides, etc. No kidding, this is one of the better beaches in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The St Somewhere Spa is fantastic. Treatment rooms for singles, couples and even a Bridal Suite for that special day.
There is a Kids Club and Fitness Center though availability is subject to covid concerns.
